Teaching

I teach students on double bass and electric bass at different levels from beginners to advanced and professional, across a wide range of styles including pop, soul, jazz, rock, latin, metal and reggae to classical music. Also, I teach  improvisation and theory for other instruments like saxophone, guitar and piano and offer band-workshops focused on interplay. Finally, I give personal coaching for college students and professional musicians concerning the more practical and non-musical aspects of being a musician.

For me, teaching is first and foremost about inspiring students and sharing my love of music. In the long run my goal is that my students become their own teacher.

My interests are broad and I have studied and transcribed a lot of music from different genres and cultures over the years. In this process, I have built up a library of hundreds of transcriptions of amazing bassists and musicians  ranging from pop, rock musicians like Flea, James Jamerson, Nathan East, Larry Graham, Doug Wimbish and Sting or jazz and fusion players like Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius  Oscar Pettiford, Paul Chambers, Ray Brown, Dave Holland, Larry Grenadier, Christian McBride and many more. Of course I have also studied standard classical double-bass literature like Simandl, Zimmermann, de Fesch,  Eccles, Capuzzi, Bottessini, Bach.

If you want to learn the music from artists like these we will go through some of these transcriptions step-by-step on your level. Since I made them, I know exactly which piece is appropriate for your level of playing and addresses the techniques and topics you want to work on.
